What is … Polya theory?

This page hosts information on Emerson Leon's talk "What is … Polya theory?" at the "What is …?" seminar. The talk will take place on Friday, June 18, 12:30pm at the BMS Loft at Urania. This talk will help you better understand the BMS Friday talk by Doron Zeilberger, which will start at 3:30pm.

At 1:30pm, the Deutschland vs. Serbien game will be screened at Urania. We will be ordering delivery pizza just before the "What is …?" seminar begins so that it will be delivered in time for the game. Please make sure to arrive at Urania by 12:20pm if you want to order pizza! (And don't forget to bring cash.)

Abstract

Polya enumeration methods help to count objects up to some symmetry. I will briefly explain how it works and then show couple of applications, were other combinatorial objects will be involved.
